A PABX can be set up to send any number it wants but the exchange has a facility to screen the number to ensure only valid extension numbers are sent. And as Okonski mentioned the exchange data can also be set up to replace the Presentation number with an entirely different number. A minefield. residential phone lines cannot control the originating CLI (unless they are ISDN.)
