It all boils down to:

You decide what you want and the price you are willing to pay.

You see who can provide your requirements.

You choose what you believe most closely meets your requirements and price.

There is no conflict of interest because NTL provide internet, TV and phone. Companies like Homechoice are in exactly the same position. If you think NTL are anti-competitive don't use them, no one is forcing you to.
