The ability to configure your ntlworld.com email address to forward email to another address (
http://selfcare.ntlworld.com/cgi-bin/frontend) may be of interest to you while you swap email addresses over. This would then atleast save you having to check two accounts
As for how long it will stay active, the NTL User Policy states (see section 9),
