Re: ID Cards in Parliament.
I'm still waiting for this new brainless home secretary's proposed legislation for ID cards in Northern Ireland, under the Good Friday Agreement, Northern Irish citizens are entitled to choose whether they are "British" or "Irish", so unless the republic bring in a similar scheme there will be no real way of enforcing it.
