When Jesus falls over a bridge, it's the bridge Judas is hiding beneath, it's where he goes to try and hide from the guilt of what he's done. So just to rub it in, he ends up eye-to-eye with Jesus who has just been thrown over the bridge. As if that wasn't bad enough, he then gets a vision of a demon to symbolise his guilt haunting him.
There are quite a few scenes in the film which don't appear in the Bible, such as Satan appearing in the Garden of Gesthemane (at the start when Jesus is praying/panicing, Satan is the bald person in the hood), and the blackbird pecking the thief's eyes out amongst other things. And before someone bleats on about it not being in "my" bible, you won't find these scenes in
any bible. Gibson ackowledges he used artistic license in these scenes.
