You are asking for the 1471 feature which is most likely active, 1471 allows you to see the last number that has called you, what you are talking about appears to be CLI Witheld whereby your number does not appear on others 1471 without you putting the 141 prefix ahead of it.

This appears to be a miscommunication with you not knowing the correct term for what you require and CS not willing to offer an other feature that they think may suit.

Call back on monday and ask for your number to be withheld.

Also for your number to be ex directory it means it will not appear in phone books and 118etc cannot give this number out it does not withhold your number.
