Not for the purposes of NTL connection. Basically Cat 5e cable is needed if you want to use a gigabit (1000Mb/s) network. Your NTL connection is currently 1.5Mb (at most) and even if you have a home network, you are not likely to need more than 100 Mb/s
Having said that for a 100Mb/s or below network, you can use the two cables interchangably.
