Re: Calibration of New Monitor
Well, if there is one thing im learning about LCD's its that they are VERY fickle and need a lot of patience to get a good calibration.
Getting the correct black point (which is not easy on LCD as they dont tend to display differerent levels of black very well) whilst maintaining good whites and making the colours in between look good is very difficult.
A lot of programs out there are mainly designed for CRT's and i dont think work too well for LCD screens, the best thing i tried was trebor's web site, where i could see the blacks and whites at different levels and adjust my settings in real time to get a good "comprimise". I say that as its not as good IMO as a CRT. The colours are more vibrant on an LCD, and the screen is sharp beyond belief, but the ranges of colours on LCD are not upto CRT yet.
Pauls link, which i initially i thought was excellent dosent give me a good black, in fact it makes everything look too bright so that colours can look washed. I tried Gamma ranges from 1.8 to 2.2 (which is way too bright) and wasnt happy with the results. And it is these sort of tests which i think are maybe unsuitable for LCD's perhaps.
Dont get me wrong - i love my new monitor, but its been a lot more trouble to get correct than i thought it would be - and im only 90% convinced it now is - i need to play around abit first and see how it fares with Photoshop / movies and games.
Anyway - thanks for all your help.
