Also make sure your connection settings are as follows...on IE top of the page, click tools-internet options-connections, make sure never dial has a dot next to it, click on lan settings, and make sure none of the boxes have ticks in (some areas/systems need the auto detect ticked) but this is not really needed.
Restart the modem before you connect to your new pc and with xp you should find the pc will do everything else.
If you go to
http://autoreg.autoregister.net and click start then follow the directions you need to register the pc to the modem.
