Virgin Media currently runs its own email service, clearly that costs money. They don't want to provide that to anyone they don't have to, and indeed to no one now. They have always been clear that they are related to an account and can switch off any that aren't.

Sky's email is a branded version of Yahoo Mail, and as long as the email addresses are in use Yahoo keeps them open independent of any Sky relationship, similar to it keeping Yahoo email addresses open.
