You have stated it stops working because of an action by them . That has to be breach of contract by them . In my case they would need to install the new software , the box will accept it ( free upgrade no one needs to call etc )and supply the new remote . If I then stopped paying I would be in breach. I would be very surprised if they just stopped your box from working. Why would they do that?

On the appointed day, your V6 would simply carry out an update to the new software. If I remember correctly, they would also send you a new remote control by post.
