I don't use Ubiquiti but these WAN checks get done by ICMP pinging, so simply changing the echo target would be an easy check to make. If VM's system fails to deliver the ICMP packets to the echo server specified by Ubiquiti then your router thinks that there is a problem - hence the message you get. Find out what is the Ubiquiti default echo server and change it - I am certain a public DNS resolver such as 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 will reliably return an ICMP Echo Request.
