I think it's the EE TV Box Pro in "Internet Mode" where an attempt to play a recording results in a stream from the BBC iPlayer app. This is because the BBC doesn't allow any streams to be recorded, so a 'recording' is a cloud-redirect bookmark* to enable the iPlayer app to stream the programme.
* Sky calls it a playlist, Virgin Media a watchlist
