These boxes are ageing now, but I imagine most faults are failing hard drives, which will no longer be used.
When Sky retires it satellite service, the Sky Q boxes will become virtually useless. Apart from no live TV, recordings will last for a little while and a few apps will keep going so long as Sky maintains the backend (for a few months I'd say as an interim measure until everyone is migrated over to Sky Glass/Stream).

There's a similar situation with Virgin Media's new fibre network for XGS-PON: the old V6 and TV 360 boxes would be obsolete and everyone must migrate to the Stream boxes.

Bottom line: we’ll be living in an IPTV video world, because everything will be streamed over IP.
