I ordered a physical SIM replacement. Turns out technical problems means it'll take 72 hours to activate the order is hanging on my account. It's meant to be instant.

It's working now having disabled the SIM then enabling it. I done that before with no joy. Problem solved. The signal bars appeared which is why I tried disable/enable.
