Years ago most of us managed with a home phone line or walk to the nearest phone box (now gone the way of the dodo).
We had a roof aerial connected to the back of the TV by a cable, simple and effective.

Then home computers, the Internet and mobile phones arrived with a mighty cheer and much waving of flags, and the World was a better place . . until it all got out of hand and took over every aspect of our lives . . .
