Re: UK Energy Prices
On holiday at the moment, so not a true representation of real life, but on Saturday the solar panels exported £3.06 of electricity while the batteries cost £0.49 to charge overnight. Bodes well for the summer, when I'm expecting the monthly bill to actually be a credit.
I'm thinking we're looking at >£450/month savings over the year as a whole when you factor in the £300 or so a month we no longer spend on petrol since going electric with the car too. I won't know until this time next year as we've just had building work done so been heating the house with fan heaters etc and had dehumidifiers going for all the plaster and concrete screeds. Big changes done and hope the underfloor heating saves some money on the gas bill too.
When we get some more money together we're hoping to add another extended on the back of the house and at the same time install a heat pump and air conditioning.
Also, because of the batteries, our usage is so low during weekday peak hours, EDF give us 16 hours of free electricity every Sunday. But on a sunny day it'll be better to export at 15p a unit and still consume off-peak at 8p a unit. I need to sit down and work out when the crossover will be - over the last few weeks we've been able to hit around 150kwh of free electricity on Sundays, but that's almost using it for the sake of it.
