They’re not actually doing an orbit, technically it’s less sophisticated than Apollo 8 in 1968, which did actually go into lunar orbit.

Artemis II will be put on a ‘free-return’ trajectory, it will be kicked out of low Earth orbit, loop once around the moon and then return to Earth. Not dissimilar to Apollo 13’s trajectory.
