I rarely mention women who believe they are men because the problems caused by gender ideology are asymmetrical. Women are at risk from men, as a class, much more than men are at risk from women. This movement is being driven by men; it is overwhelmingly a mysoginist project and I tend to view trans-identifying females as victims of the movement even if they’re campaigning for it.

That said, your assessment of the law is correct. A woman who thinks she’s a man is still a woman, and the law states that where single sex spaces are provided, then sex is to be construed in its ordinary meaning as biological sex. To label toilets as ‘men’ and ‘women’ and then operate a gender-identity access policy is likely to result in indirect discrimination on the basis of the protected characteristic of sex. The Good Law project has just tried, and failed, to muddy that eloquently simple fact in court this week. It stands.

In my experience, the women of my acquaintance almost invariably recognise a man and a woman regardless of their dress or facial hair. Women need to know when they’re in potentially risky company. It’s an evolved threat response.
