Nobody really likes a rise in basic income tax, although that really only hurts those at the bottom of the 'average' earnings bracket.

A rise in VAT hits everyone, apart from suppliers who will presumably raise their prices to the consumers.

National Insurance . . well we've already seen that working . . . so successfully


Waste however, my Lord, where to start with cutting back on waste.
For every proposal on how to cut waste there is a counter argument from those departments doing the wasting
