Yes, but the season they finished 5th saw them fall off dramatically in the latter half of the season. Essentially, teams adapted to his tactics that saw them start very strongly, and he had no other plan. That form continued into the next season.
As for winning in Europe, they were facing teams weaker than most Premier League teams. I think their budget was more than that of all the teams they faced up until they faced Man United, where they managed to beat the worst United side in a long time without a shot on target.
It's a good achievement to win a trophy, but the league is a better assessment of a manager. This record is objectively poor in the league.
