Gender identity ideology - the (nonsensical) claim that one may ‘identify’ as anything other than the male or female they were born as, ostensibly due to the existence of a gender identity (sometimes called a ‘gendered soul’) that may or may not match the biological sex of one’s body.

You might very charitably call it a social science. It is more accurately a neo-religious philosophy. And it is presently infecting great swathes of public life in the western world, with such real-world consequences as women losing places in sports teams to men (who not only claim to be women, and think of themselves as women, but then actually expect everyone else to carry on as if they really are women), women prisoners at risk of harm from men being housed with them, women being told they aren’t allowed to require a woman in intimate or stressful situations such as hospital treatments or rape crisis counselling.

But I’m sure you knew all this already. Feel free to performatively clutch your pearls at this point.
