You do realise all the spots and marks are caused by scratches and dust. They weren't there when the prints were first made.
That's why new digital transfers from old stock is colour corrected and cleaned up. So they look as good as they did the first time people saw them.
What your are seeing now old old VHS or Betamax or original 16mm or 35mm is degradation of the film stock due to its age. Colours fade and everytime it's handled or put through a tape player or projector it gets scratched and damaged.
Digitally remastered and restored is actually putting the films back to the way they would have been in the beginning.
