The gist is heat the person and not the home. There's a lot you can do to keep warm. Look at insulating under the doors, using draught excluders to foam sliders that go under the doors to keep heat in as if you're not heating other rooms that's where you'll lose the heat due to the draughts. But bear in mind to keep the house at some reasonable temperature to keep dampness out so a min 16-17c in winter.
Also heated blankets are really good (not the bedding electric blankets kind) and they're a whole lot cheaper to run than putting the heating on. Or hot water bottles but the heated blankets are a godsend and the cost is low. Was something like 3p an hour or something like that.
