Desktops or laptop?

Hi all,

I'm in my late 30s now and always just had a desktop pc since i was like 11. I'm struggling to find a potential replacement for my 6 year old PC and i'm really, really confused about

1) Why prices are high compared to what i paid 6 years ago but the specs dont seem that much better

2) why SSD storage is like 50% less than the 1TB PC i got last time

this is the PC I've got currently:
HP Pavillion Gaming Desktop 690-00. Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8400 CPU @ 2.80GHz 2.81 GHz

8.00 GB (7.87 GB usable). 1.1TB hard drive

Everything else around the £700-800 price seems WORSE than my current desktop unless tech has gone past me in my old age. can anyone recommend a good desktop for me? i use it to mainly go on the internet, use MS office and the games i use were that modern version of theme hospital and football manager 2024 haha.

I'm starting to think desktops may now be easier going via apple macs since they seem to still be investing in desktops.

Unless laptops are the way to go now? are they cheaper than desktops? i always thought laptops would be more expensive as they have to be put in a much smaller base?

Thanks in advance all
