Always wise to have a landline, if only as a back up.
Digital landlines don’t work that way, because they require the router to be powered. There’s no current flowing in a fibre-optic line. If you’re a vulnerable person you can apply to have a battery backup installed on the router. If you’re not you can buy one. I imagine very few people do.
