Re: If you were starting from scratch…
I’m actually in this position right now. I’m out of contract next week, and Virgin have told me my discount will end in July and my new monthly bill will be £126. I’m moving house in September, so seriously reconsidering what I need and what I would like.
I’ve been in my current house for nearly two years, and never plugged anything into the landline, so don’t need that at all.
I’ve got M500 broadband, which is sufficient.
I have a single V6 box with TiVo, which doesn’t get a huge amount of use, but I’ve always been a TiVo fan, and appreciate having a nice library of recorded stuff available. We use watch Netflix and Disney+ a fair bit, and have Amazon Prime which gets used occasionally.
I have Sky Sports HD, but only for F1 and Cricket. I do watch Eurosport a fair bit.
We have three mobile contracts, none of them with Virgin or O2, so looking at how we can save on that.
The Ultimate Volt package would be cost effective, get me an extra box, allow me to save on a mobile SIm and cover my Netflix needs.
But my new house has fast internet available from a number of providers. I could switch to Sky Stream, Virgin Stream, or just go with broadband and Freeview/Sat. There are so many options now.
I haven’t decided yet whether to
1) Cancel now, and shop around for a new deal with any providers I want in my new home
2) Haggle with Virgin now, bring them with me when I move
3) Pay their new ridiculous monthly bill for a month and handle the stress of having to phone them to both move and change package in one conversation next month
