His problem is thanks to the text messages being published, it’s now fairly clear he doesn’t like Trump and never really believed the Dominion machines were rigged. It’s hard to see any of the other right wing networks taking him on.
Canning him certainly did cost Fox a pretty penny but they have form for lancing the boil in this way. News of the World was ruthlessly terminated when it threatened to poison the family brand, despite being the UK’s top selling Sunday paper. The Murdoch family, and Fox itself, are sitting on a massive cash pile and can afford to take drastic action like this and then hope to ride out the storm.
In any case, they have another libel case coming up and may hope to persuade everyone that they are already getting their house in order by getting rid of the person most associated with the contended claims.
