TBH I find it strange that in announced in the budget anyway as that is the purview of a different department.
From what I've read from this budget (not a lot), it would benefit you a great deal if you do qualify for PIP as this would help you as it goes towards UC's new LCWRA changes. PIP will now be the main factor for certain disability benefits and allowances.

From the BBC... ( https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-64967329 )

'A new Universal Credit "health element" will be awarded to claimants of PIP, "ensuring there is a safety net in place for the most vulnerable", the white paper says.' & 'When the changes come in, new claimants who do not qualify for PIP would not get any additional benefit top-up and would be expected to look for work'. - But a key point is 'new claimants'.

I can't see any information for those on the legacy benefits. Though I know there will be a change over at some point but this keeps getting pushed back.

I do agree that the 'automated' sanctions is harsh and will be a massive worry for a lot of people, hence PIP is now key. My worry is now they will move the goal posts even further to make it even harder to claim PIP.

One of the main safety nets for PIP (and Attendance Allowance for the elderly), is that if you have a partner who for any reason is not working, can claim carers allowance. This will automatically excuse them from looking for work and will not be subject to these sanctions.
