I get this but it didn't seem they did. the family were on the way to balmoral but were already heading there after she died? Once they were in the air and the Queen was dead and they knew she was did it matter about releasing the news?

Apparently the news of Elizabeths death came out within the same time of King Georges death (when his body was found) but in the internet generation surely its quicker than ever to get the news out to the commonwealth?

Again its just an interesting point that however the royal family modernize some of the big things still keep their Victorian rigidity.
