Our old so far fairly reliable Zanussi has finally given up the ghost after 23 years. Our repair man said it's would be at least £200 to fix the current fault just on spares and that he would now recommend putting out to pasture especially as spares are getting harder to get. He also said only go for Miele as they will have spares for 20 years past last production but you probably don't need and stick with 7kg models.

Choices WCA030 and WEA025 - Miele site £699 for both models. John Lewis had the WEA025 for £669, Hughes the WCA030 for £629. Add £48 for install and removal of old machine (same for both vendors), delivered Thursday.

Main issue we can't fob off the "We can cover your washing machine for only £x per month" any more. Just telling them it was over 20 years old put them off.
We’ve had repair cover on all our appliances for years. They break down just about often enough to be worth it, though to be honest the biggest benefit is just being able to book a repair for any of them from one website without having to phone round looking for a local independent guy to come out.

Our Hotpoint dishwasher b0rked last week and at 14 years of age the repairer said it was as well to write it off. New one arrives this afternoon, supplied and fitted free of charge (and old one removed).
