Updated drivers can break things in my experience, especially if the printer old and no longer fully supported. I have an old Canon here that I can print to with full access to all features from an old Mac but the newer Mac only has access to a generic driver and it can’t fully control the printer.

Based on what she’s said so far I’d be trawling the internet for the older driver before I started mucking about with Ethernet cable.
I missed that bit but still do not trust wifi printer hehe

OP What are the order of events?
Did you start having issues before any updates? were the updates done after you started having the problem?
