Plenty of American institutions I noticed use the Fasces (the bundle of sticks with an axe) in their symbols. Why? Because these institutions predate fascism and took the same symbols from the Romans that Mussolini adapted.

Strange how no one complains about the New York school of law.

The date on the NYU logo is 1835, comfortably pre-dating Mussolini. I’m not aware of anyone using a version of that symbol in contemporary neo-Nazi circles, though if you are, I’d be interested to hear it.

The point here is that the Odal has been adopted since world war 2 by neo-nazis precisely because of its subtle connections to the German Nazi party. It signals affiliation without drawing immediate condemnation as would likely result from flying a swastika.

Again, I have no idea if this was deliberate. But non-controversial, pre-war uses of ancient symbols subsequently adopted by Nazis don’t speak against their deliberate post-war use.
