The Telegraph's (et al) campaigns against what they term "woke" is just their latest in their efforts to stoke outrage - in the 70s and 80s, they did the same against Feminism, in the 90s and 00s, it was against the "Gay Agenda", and they just repeat the same tactics decade after decade, trying to make their readership feel threatened and outraged, because things aren't "
the same as they were before, when everything was idyllic*.
Also, having a "culture war" is useful for distraction from actual important problems - the Conservatives have been in power for 11 years (nearly), have an 80 seat majority, most of the media slavishly reprint their viewpoints (from a Downing Street/Government source), but somehow the right wing views are "oppressed".
