I think he's just generalizing on mainstream platforms, didn't appear to go to any real depth about tonal differences with different genres through different sources.

I love the sound of vinyl, but my collection has been stored upstairs for many years since removal of a tired turntable, and the risk of damage from exuberant pets & children

My tape collection has long since been converted to MP3 format where no CD's were available . . shame because my 05 Avensis comes with a Tape deck as standard along with Radio/CD

CD/Digital just doesn't sound as 'good' to my ears, no matter how I adjust equalizers etc, I can never find a 'rich' sound/tone comparable to the album one. The best audio I've found (for me) on the computer is through the AIMP music player . . bang that through the (aging) Sony stereo system and it's not bad at all . . . as long as the encoding is good
