I think the BBC one was very accurate to the book. Unfortunately, this means the plot was a little slow, and not a lot happened. I have to admit, I last read the book about 30 years ago, so could have forgotten bit. Don't get me wrong, I remember enjoying the book, and love the various versions of the story I've seen over the years.

The downside is a story that reads well in a book may not translate well to the screen. Slower plots can work well in a book, but will be boring on screen.

I preferred the HBO version. It was essentially an aliens invade the earth story with the War of the Worlds name than a retelling of the story from the book, but it was well written, well acted and exciting.
