Looking at all this from a logical perspective:
1. Northern EU countries and the UK are Much the same in terms of public health and medical facilities.
2. The pandemic hit us all more or less equally.
3. The lower death rates occurred where lock down measures were introduced earliest.
4. Ergo, the excess deaths measure sorts it all out.
Simples.
