Hence “average approximation”. Plasters have never been invisible - just less visible.

Given the doubtless huge number of plasters produced annually, I doubt there’s a significant difference in the cost or complexity of production, or wastage. No more than producing any product in various colours, surely? After all, plasters are already produced in a range of novelty patterns and also bright blue for catering environments.
