Good idea, i've seen a few people do this.

After seeing the problem of UK landfill sites from the 1950's onwards going into the sea due to coastal erosion and killing sea life I think that it's a good idea.

Lots of clothes, plastics etc that we threw away decades ago are now finding their way into the sea, as are poisonous chemicals from batteries etc.

As time went on, landfill methods improved, but declined again in the 80's when the Thatcher administration forced councils to use the cheapest option for refuse collection and disposal. It was simply cheaper to bury the waste and not recycle it, so that's what the private companies who bid under Compulsary Competitive Tendering did.

Thankfully, the environmental impacts of doing this are now being taken seriously again. Some places are even mining old landfill sites to recycle materials and reclaim precious materials that we are running short of
