So as a homeowner you're entitled to do as you please so long as you accept the likelihood that your insurance is now void and should you ever sell up or rent the property they'll all need re-doing by a professional.
If you're a private tenant or council rented then you probably shouldn't be touching a thing.
You're doing the right thing, just let them get on with it and you'll be up to scratch and everything in order.

Not quite true ,
a certified electrician must be used for *notifiable* works in accordance with part 'p' of the building regs.As of some time in 2014 a non registered electrician can be used as long as they get a registered electrician within 5 days to certify the works. If the homeowner chooses to do notifyable works they will find it very hard to find a certified electrician to give the appropriate certificates and yes it can affect your home insurance
**notifiable works are changing consumer units or adding circuits that sort of thing ,not changing the socket switches although i have seen many diy horror stories from simple tasks like changing sockets and moving cables so if in doubt get an electrician .
A internet and tv forum is not the place to get electrical advice when your project has gone wrong ,Yellow pages under 'E' is where to go

It will be difficult to find a certified electrician to certify a job done by a non electrician .You will get qualified electricians checking and certifying trainees work because they have overseen the work but for a homeowner to get a certificate after the installation is almost impossible and rightly so .There could be hidden issues that could cause the wiring to fail certification but the electrician cannot detect them because the works have been completed
