I don't disagree that the new box needs to bring it's A-game, but there's also nothing wrong with "just" being a pipe for everyone else's stuff. Virgin could theoretically do a deal with the big ondemand content providers (Netflix, Amazon, etc.) and pipe their content onto Virgin Boxes. Most people are happy to pay like £8 a month for netflix, what if you could pay £15 a month for all of the ondemand services and have all that content available on a TiVo like interface? It would take some doing and a lot of negotiation, but it'd be a hell of a service to beat.

Cheap option is do what someone else said just offer the TV free on top of broadband make the difference in volume. Other options go premium less customers but more willing to pay the bigger bucks. Exactly, viewing habits are changing. People are looking to binge watch more and more and less willing to channel hop.
