Yes I've read that also. Like I said, we can't rule out anything yet and who knows what 'justification' he'd have used had he survived. He doesn't have to be a right wing lunatic or Islamic fanatic to do what he did. The point remains that nutters can be influenced by anyone and the likes of ISIS (or anyone else who goes in for mass, indiscriminate murder) won't care a jot who does their work for them.

It's a tough line to walk - we don't want to allow ISIS to take more 'credit' than they're due but if they are 'wrongly' blamed for one atrocity or another that will only add to the public outrage and the political will to destroy them. Maybe we need to start overestimating their reach rather than allowing ourselves to underestimate them...
