Being the first woman to achieve that position way back when women in politics were far fewer yes indeed many people, especially men, did - far more I reckon than doubt May who at least doesn't have that particular hurdle to overcome.

Which is why I stated - 'only time will tell'...

Anyway, it's probably not going to be long before 3 of the world's top 5 economies are being run by women and in the UK both major parties are being led by women. If this carries on it might not be too long before we need some positive discrimination in favour or men.
