I hope I am right about this because it sounds to me that the Horizon box does not function very well, is slower than the current Tivo and needs a lot more work on it.

I gave the exact quote from Tom Mockbridge, nothing was left out, then gave my opinion.
EOS, as they're currently calling it, is cloud based. As someone over on the DS forums pointed out, of course there still needs to be some form of box to link your tv to VM services. But it will not be a SkyQ type box, a large box, but rather something like the Sky mini, a bit like the analogue cable boxes of old. I reckon everything will be stored in the cloud, not just recordings, but the EPG, encryption (no need for a smart card or smart card slot) meta data etc.
VM has made clear the interface will be tivo for the time being, but they will migrate the UK over to the Horizon interface at some point. What is not clear is what new hardware, if any, we will get.

I thought that was a key phrase and something which was left out of the official transcript of the webcast which is why I listened carefully to it (several times!!) and wrote exactly what was said here.
The fact he emphasises that Sky's new box is expensive is telling us that VM are not going down that road. As I just said to Old Boy, VM may launch some sort of new mini box, but it will be fed from the cloud. That is a key difference between how Sky and VM are launching new services.
Sky must rely more on equipment to feed customers with services, satellite is essentially one-way. Cable is not. That's the
key.
Media Boy is saying that VM are upgrading their network capacity and everything in time will be fed from the cloud thus negating the need for expensive Sky type boxes on cable. I think VM could not not have been clearer.

There's another bit of key info, from the person who knows!
The jigsaw pieces are coming together.
As I've stated before, VM may rebrand their VOD services to Liberty's own streaming service called MyPrime.

A further question comes to mind - will EOS have Tivo or Horizon software on it outside the UK?.

It will be Horizon and they've already said what it will be called, assuming its the same thing.
On the presentation slide there is mention of Horizon Lite, a cloud based service. I beleive EOS and Horizon Lite, as far as outside the UK goes, are one and the same thing. Perhaps here they'll call EOS Tivo Lite??
EOS is just an internal name they are using to describe their cloud based, 4k, next gen services. It is not a brand name we'll ever see.

We don't know what software it will have outside the UK.
The new EOS box will be rolled out globally as LGI's next generation offering.
Sounds very positive to me.

I think they were very clear, but to repeat. Horizon is the user interface that Liberty use for their current and
future services outside the UK.
EOS is an internal name they use for their cloud based, 4k, next gen services. I believe, don't know for sure, that this is based on their RDK software specs that we've all spoken about before.
Everything,
including the UK eventually, will use the Horizon interface.

Thank you. Just in time for a certain cloud based service to launch...
