He still technically a junior doctor. Just as much as one on maternity leave. In fact under the current contract taking time out would still count as training. That wouldn't happen under the new contract and is one of the things they are bleating about. They are happy with the situation where a person who has been off work/training for 3 out of the last 6 years is ahead of somebody continuously working for 5 years. Doesn't sound fair or equal.
