I would think the statement Sunderland have made is all fact. I would find it highly unlikely they would've kept him on if they knew he was going to plead guilty but you can see why Johnson would lie to them to keep on playing and earning a wage. Surely the club would know the repercussions of employing someone who has admitted to child abuse? Why would they risk keeping him?

I can see this going on for a bit, convenient that it's somehow gotten away from the man actually guilty. I'm not sure but I think the PFA had a bit to say about him playing whilst awaiting trial yet it's only Sunderland being hounded.
