Moving the TV cable point to another location
Hi,
I currently have a 12 year old LCD TV and a standard Virgin box. We are renovating our lounge and part of that is replacing the TV and updating to the Virgin TiVo box. We are moving things around a bit and the Virgin box is going to be located in the opposite side of the room. In fact where it will be located is not too far from where the cable for the broadband and telephone come in.
I have an AV installer coming in who is doing all of the work to channel HDMI, Ethernet etc cables through walls so it is all neat and tidy. He offered to do the work to move the cable box to it's new location as well but at the time I thought it better to get Virgin to do that bit.
Yesterday I phoned Virgin to get the TiVo box upgraded, for which they are charging me £50 to come and install it. When I asked about someone moving the cable so it comes into a different point in the room they wanted to charge me another £100. The lady did suggest that getting a local person to do the work could be cheaper or even asking the engineer who comes to setup the TiVo box.
As I already have someone coming in to do the other cabling, and he has offered to do the work, I am tempted to just get him to reroute the cable. If go down this route are Virgin likely to complain if in the future something goes wrong? Are they likely to say that because they did not move the cable they are not responsible?
Thanks
Andy
