That's not correct. They are not blinkered or deluded, they are working through a plan. They refuse to listen because they don't have to and don't want to. They are unelected and therefore unaccountable. The EU nations can't leave the EU if they don't like it as there is no mechanism for leaving and the EU leaders are therefore free to push through their agenda of national homogenisation regardless of any populist opposition to their aims and methods.
