A lot of "lapsed" muslims in the West are becoming more and more afraid of the more fervent muslims who believe that to leave Islam, or fail to do all that muslims are supposed to do, is punishable all the way up to a death penalty.
Much as "christian" communities in the USA shun those who don't go to church each Sunday. But at least they don't condemn them to death, they have more subtle ways to make your life difficult.
