From his desktop PC can he see other devices on the network, e.g. his tablet?

When that happened on my last PC the Network Interface on the Motherboard had failed. Think the failure was probably related to a violent thunderstorm that night which shutdown the PC, I had no network connection when I restarted it! I could have installed a new NIC but instead used a spare USB wireless network adapter I had.
